Carlos Reutemann

Carlos Reutemann (born 12 April 1942 in Santa Fe), nicknamed “Lole” by his many fans, is an Argentinian former racing driver who raced in Formula One from 1972 to 1982, and later became a politician in his native province, and governor of Santa Fe in Argentina.

As a racing driver, Carlos Reutemann was among Formula One’s leading protagonists between 1972 and 1982. He drove for the Brabham, Ferrari, Lotus and Williams teams and scored 12 Grand Prix victories in 146 starts and six pole positions.

He’s one of only three drivers in Formula One history, with Mario Andretti and Jacques Villeneuve, to capture pole position on his Grand Prix debut (Buenos Aires 1972).

In 1981, while driving for Williams he finished second in the World Drivers’ Championship by one point, having been overtaken by Nelson Piquet’s Brabham in the last race of the season at Las Vegas (picture below).
