The 1959 Portuguese Grand Prix was held at the dangerous and picturesque Monsanto circuit, situated on the hills above Lisbon, on 23 August 1959. The race was held over 62 laps of the 5 kilometre circuit.
Picture-above: American Dan Gurney finished third, achieving his second F1 podium in only his third Grand Prix start, in his Ferrari Dino 246.
The race was won by British driver Stirling Moss (picture-below), his eleventh Grand Prix victory, driving a Cooper T51 for privateer race team Rob Walker Racing Team. Moss domination was such, that he finish a lap ahead of American racer Masten Gregory in a works Cooper T51.
