Ingo Hoffmann
Ingo Hoffmann moved straight into Formula One in 1976 after showing great speed in a March in F3. Unfortunately, the Brazilian’s F1 career was hindered by the financial problems of the Fittipaldi team, as he drove the team’s second car, when realistically the team could only afford to run one.
He entered four Grand Prix in 1976, did not succeed to qualify in three of them and an eleventh place at the Brazilian Grand Prix held at Interlagos (picture-above) was the best result achieved.
In 1977, Hoffmann competed at Buenos Aires (retired, engine failure) and again at Interlagos where he finished seventh, two laps behind the winner. However, that was Hoffmann’s last race in F1, as the second Fittipaldi entry was withdrawn.
Ingo Hoffmann then competed in Formula 2 for Ron Dennis’ Project Four team in a Ralt and also in a March (picture-below) in 1977 and 1978, winning races and racing at the front, showing that he did not lose the speed he had shown earlier in his career. He then returned to race the Brazilian Stock Car Championship that he won no less than… 12 times, scoring more than 100 wins.
