Denny Hulme, who had started his Formula One career in 1965, was still competitive in 1974, his last season in F1.

Driving a Yardley-McLaren M23, he won the season opener in Argentina and came second in Austria, but the New-Zealander, who witnessed first hand Peter Revson’s fatal accident during testing at Kyalami, decided to retire at the end of the season.
