The orange Chevrolet Camaro Z28 of Crabtree/Buncombe/Sanger, here at full speed on the climb leading to Les Combes, during the 1973 Spa 24 Hours. The beautiful and powerful American car will not see the finish line, but will be classified eleventh, as this edition was so trying for the drivers and their machines.

This edition of the 24 Hours of Spa was unfortunately tragic though, with multiple serious accidents that sadly cost the lives of three drivers: Hans-Peter Joisten, Massimo Larini and Roger Dubos (the fiancé of racing driver “Christine”).

The race was dominated by the BMW 3.0 CSL of Toine Hezemans and Dieter Quester, who won after a great duel with the Ford Capri RS2600 driven by Jochen Mass and John Fitzpatrick, while Jean-Louis Haxhe and René Tricot brought their Opel Commodore GSE to an excellent third place at the finish.
