In 1988 Michael Schumacher made his first steps into single-seaters racing by participating in the German Formula Ford and Formula König series, winning the latter.
In 1989, Schumacher signed with Willy Weber‘sWTS Formula Three team. Weber, believing in Michael’s talent, funded the team, became his manager and Schumacher rewarded him by winning the German F3 title in 1990 (picture above).
He also won the Macao Grand Prix in 1990 under controversial circumstances (picture below), when he aggressively blocked his rival Mika Hakkinen, who crashed into the back of his car and had to retire, while Schumacher cruised to victory without… a rear wing! The rivality between Scchumacher and Hakkinen was only at its beginnings.
