Lucien Bianchi (1934–1969) was an Italian-born Belgian racing driver renowned for his extreme versatility across Formula One, endurance racing, and rallying. He is most celebrated for winning the 1968 24 Hours of Le Mans overall with co-driver Pedro Rodríguez in a Ford GT40.
Career Highlights:
- Endurance Racing: Beyond his 1968 Le Mans victory, he won the 1962 12 Hours of Sebring and the 1965 Nürburgring 500km. He competed in 13 consecutive 24 Hours of Le Mans races from 1956 to 1968.
- Formula One: Bianchi started 17 Grands Prix, primarily during the 1960s. His career pinnacle in F1 was a podium finish (3rd place) at the 1968 Monaco Grand Prix driving for Cooper-BRM.
- Rallying: He was a dominant force in road events, winning the Tour de France Automobile four times (1957, 1958, 1959, and 1964). He also won the Liège-Rome-Liège Rally and was the 1963 Belgian Rally Champion.
