Paddocks were quite rudimentary in the 70s, like seen here-above at Oulton Park, where was held the 1972 Gold Cup, a non-championship Formula One race. When rain came, as often in England, things got quite complicated for the teams, here the JPS Team Lotus crew attending Emerson Fittipaldi’s Lotus 72.
In this 1972 Gold Cup, ten of the cars that had competed in the European Formula 5000 race round earlier in the day, joined the eight Formula 1 cars on the grid. Denny Hulme won the race in a Yardley-livered McLaren M19A, with Emerson Fittipaldi (Lotus 72) second. Brian Redman (picture below) finished fourth and first F5000 car (he also won the all-F5000 race), in a Sid Taylor entered Chevron-Chevrolet B24.
