The Porsche 908LH of Gerhard Mitter and Udo Schütz, at full speed, during practice for the 1969 1000 km of Spa (picture above). This 908 was entered during practice only, before the pairing was asked to race the new #30 917. The 917 was very unstable at high speeds and lasted one lap only. Mitter later admitted that he intentionally over-revved, the car being so dangerous to drive. The race was won by the works Porsche 908LH of Jo Siffert and Brian Redman.

Gerhard Mitter (1935-1969) was a German racing driver. He participated in 7 F1 Grand Prix (5 starts) and scored three career (fourth) points in his home 1963 German Grand Prix with an old Porsche 718 from 1961. He raced for Porsche in sports cars and won many races including the 1969 Targa Florio (Porsche 908). Sadly he was killed while practicing for the 1969 German Grand Prix, when the suspension or steering on his F2 BMW broke.

Udo Schütz (born 11 January 1937) is a German entrepreneur, who was competing successfully with racing cars, mostly Porsches in the 60s. Schütz and Mitter (picture below, with Dr. Ferry Porsche), won the 1969 Targa Florio in a Porsche 908/2, ahead of three sister cars.
