When the great Giacomo Agostini stepped away from two-wheels racing to try his luck into four-wheels racing, he fell from his pedestal.

After a timid experience in Formula 2 in 1978, he moved into F1 the next year at the wheel of a Marlboro-livered Williams FW06 with which he entered the Dino Ferrari Grand Prix at Imola (non-championship race) next to his compatriots Riccardo Patrese, Elio de Angelis and “Beppe Gabbiani” (picture above).

Ago had to be satisfied with a modest tenth place, and would never again enter another World Championship Formula One race. He persevered in the Aurora AFX British Series, as well as in the prestigious “Race of Champions” at Brands Hatch (picture below) where he finished in eleventh position, two laps behind winner Gilles Villeneuve in a Ferrari.
