The best in every way
Andy Granatelli (1923-2013) was an American businessman from Dallas Texas, most prominent as the CEO of the STP oil treatment company as well as a major figure in automobile racing in the US.
He was the owner of the car (in STP livery) driven to victory at the 1969 Indianapolis 500 by American legend Mario Andretti (picture below) and it was believed that Granatelli attended every Indianapolis 500, whether as participant or as a spectator, from 1946 to 2012.
“The best all around driver, to drive anything, anywhere, anytime is Mario Gabriele Andretti. No contest. Top of the heap, the best in every way.” – Andy Granatelli.
That’s how highly the Texan rated Mario Andretti, the driver who later went on to win the 1978 Formula One World Championship for Lotus and who remained his friend till the end.
