Ten years later!
Dutchman Jan Lammers returned to Formula 1 in 1992, driving two races for the March team, at the Japanese (pictured above) and Australian Grand Prix, replacing Karl Wendlinger.
At March, which had bought the assets of the Leyton House team, Emanuele Naspetti left F3000 while leading the championship to replace Paul Belmondo, and Jan Lammers made a surprise return for two races.
This return marked his first appearance in F1 since… 1982, which represents the longest absence, 10 years, in history for a driver between two participations in a Grand Prix.
Driving his March CG911B-Ilmor, Jan Lammers was forced to retire in Japan and finished twelfth in Australia (photo below). March then offered him a contract for the 1993 season, but the team, in serious financial trouble, did not return to the grid in 1993, and the valiant driver decided to return to endurance racing.
