The 1986 1000 km of Spa was the eighth round of the 1986 World Sports-Prototype Championship. A strong field was led by the factory teams – Rothmans Porsche and Silk Cut Jaguar – who were the clear favorites.

Nevertheless, and to the surprise of many, the Brun Motorsport-entered Porsche 962C in bright orange Jägermeister colors, superbly driven by German Frank Jelinski and local hero Belgian Thierry Boutsen (who was outstanding), drove a flawless race to take a prestigious victory.

Boutsen and Jelinski (Brun Porsche) covered 145 laps, leading  Lammers and Warwick (Silk Cut Jaguar) by just 0.8 sec and the Rothmans Porsche of Stuck and Bell in the same lap, to the flag.

Thierry Boutsen declared: “It was a fantastic race for us, we had to attack all the way, and keeping the Jaguar behind in the last laps, was not easy.”
