Roberto Moreno finished the 1990 Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit in tears, as he achieved a magnificent second place in his Benetton behind his teammate (and friend), Nelson Piquet.

The 1990 Japanese Grand Prix saw the famous collision caused by Ayrton Senna (McLaren) which sent Alain Prost’s Ferrari and his own car into the scenery at the first corner.

The Benetton B190s of Nelson Piquet and his protégé Roberto Moreno didn’t ask for much, and achieved an incredible one-two finish, the best result ever achieved by this team at this stage of its F1 adventure.

For Roberto Moreno, who participated in a total of 75 Grand Prix, often in back-of-the-grid teams, this will remain the only podium of his F1 career. More emotion on the podium with Japanese driver Aguri Suzuki, who also scored the only podium of his career, with third in his Larrousse.
