Patrick Tambay is sitting in his Ferrari 126C2 minutes before the start of the 1982 Italian Grand Prix held on the Autodrómo Nazionale di Monza. Tambay has qualified in 3rd and is confident for the race, but the sensation of qualifying is his team mate Mario Andretti who, to the delight of the tifosi, put his Ferrari on pole!

Tambay, without a permanent Formula One drive in 1982, was offered a place with the Scuderia Ferrari after the death of his close friend Gilles Villeneuve. He won his first Grand Prix at the German Grand Prix held that year, in his fourth start for Ferrari. It was a very emotional win for Tambay, as he won in the #27 car, Villeneuve’s number.

René Arnoux (Renault) won this 1982 Italian Grand Prix and announced he would join the Scuderia Ferrari in 1983. Patrick Tambay finished second ahead of his team mate Andretti who scored that weekend the last pole, the last podium and the last F1 points of his career.
