Spins and crashes
Philippe Alliot has just spun his Larrousse-Lola LC88-Cosworth, and seems perplexed, during qualifying for the 1988 Canadian Grand Prix (picture-above). The Frenchman qualified 17th, drove a strong race, climbed to seventh, before running out of fuel on lap 67. He was classified tenth.
The Lola LC88 is a Formula One car that the Larrousse team used to compete in the 1988 season. It was designed by Eric Broadley (technical director) and Chris Murphy (chief designer), had a carbon fibre monocoque and was powered by the well-known V8 Ford Cosworth DFZ engine.
1988 was a difficult season for the Larrousse-Calmels team. Both drivers were plagued by reliability issues but also by accidents like when Alliot had a massive accident in Mexico during practice and was very lucky to walk unharmed. Yannick Dalmas, who crashed heavily in Hungary, finished 7th in Monaco and Detroit, while Philippe Alliot (picture-below) raced to 9th in Belgium and in Japan, but no points were scored.
