Siblings
During this week of July, we remember the tragic death of Jules Bianchi and reflect on his grand-father Mauro and his grand-uncle Lucien united under the same crown of laurels after their win in the 500 km of Nürburgring 1965.
Three years later, the two brothers were at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans: Lucien was going to win the race with Pedro Rodriguez in a Ford GT40 and Mauro was seriously injured in a career-ending accident.
After his Le Mans triumph, Lucien Bianchi took part in his last Formula One Grand Prix aboard a works Cooper (picture below) at Watkins Glen and Mexico, then dominate the endless road marathon London-Sydney until 160km from the end (with Jean-Claude Ogier in a Citroen DS) in the winter of 68/69 and was sadly killed during the preliminary tests for the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo 33.
