Jo Gartner (1954–1986) was a versatile and promising Austrian racing driver (above left), known for his tenacity and technical expertise, competing in both Formula One and elite sports car endurance racing. He is often remembered for a heroic finish at the 12 Hours of Sebring and his tragic, high-speed accident at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This 1986 edition of the 12 Hours of Sebring was won by the Bob Akin Motor Racing #5 Porsche 962 driven by Bob Akin, Hans Joachim Stuck and Jo Gartner (picture above), who drove a strong race in their Coca-Cola livered Porsche 962 (picture below), especially Gartner who delivered an heroic last stint, and helped by team owner Bob Akin, took a well-deserved victory.
