The Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix was held on 27 May 2012. Michael Schumacher had received a ten-place grid penalty for causing an avoidable collision with Bruno Senna at the Spanish Grand Prix, and knew he would start further back than his qualifying position. Nevertheless, Michael was sensational, and took pole position in his Mercedes.

Schumacher was extremely happy with his best qualifying since his return to Formula One. The seven-time World Champion stated: “It is simply a wonderful feeling to set pole after such a long time, and particularly here in Monaco. Okay, it has taken a little longer than I might have wanted in the second chapter of my career, but that makes it sweeter. It’s just beautiful.”

No luck in the race for Schumacher who was forced to retire on lap 63 with fuel pressure problems and who sadly will never win a race in a Mercedes. Mark Webber’s (Red Bull-Renault) victory created a new record for Formula One in that there had never six different winners of the opening six Grand Prix of the season before.
