Perkins and the Boro adventure
In 1976, Larry Perkins, seen above getting into his single-seater, signed with the Boro team, which made its debut in Formula 1 with the Boro N175-Cosworth, in fact a slightly modified Ensign. Boro was a Formula One team from the Netherlands run by the brothers Bob and Rody Hoogenboom.
The Australian, who showed great promise in F3, made his first Grand Prix start in Spain, where he finished 13th and then 8th in Belgium (Zolder), which would be his best result of the season. This was followed by a failure to qualify in Monaco and a retirement in Sweden with a broken engine.
Boro was desperately short of resources, and Perkins retired in Holland and Italy, and was left without a ride when the team withdrew from competition. He replaced Carlos Reutemann (who had left for Ferrari) at Brabham for the last three Grands Prix of the season, finished 17th in Canada, and retired in the next two races…
