Penske the racing driver
Roger Penske participated in the first Gran Premio de Mexico in 1962, that was a non-championship event run to Formula One rules, in a Dupont Team Zerex-entered Lotus-Climax (picture above), but retired on lap 6 with a broken gearbox.
The race was run over 60 laps and was eventually won by Jim Clark and Trevor Taylor, sharing a drive in a Lotus 25, after pole -sitter Clark suffered a flat battery at the start and reverted to his team mates car. The race meeting was marred by the death during practice of local prodigy Ricardo Rodriguez in a Rob Walker-entered Lotus-Climax, while chasing pole position.
Roger Penske (born February 20, 1937) is a former American racing car driver (he participated in two US F1 Grand Prix in 1961 and 1962), a team owner, businessman and entrepreneur. Penske is most known for his ownership of the very successful Team Penske, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, IndyCar and other racing-related businesses. Penske Automotive Group, for instance, operates automobile dealerships in the United States, Canada and Europe. Roger Penske, a much celebrated and respected person and a legend of motorsport.
