Orange at the port
The 1970 Monaco Grand Prix was held at the Circuit de Monaco on 10 May 1970. The race was won by Jochen Rindt, when on the final corner of the last lap, he succeeded to get passed Jack Brabham, who, under pressure, locked the wheels under braking and his Brabham-Ford skidded across the track towards the barriers . It was the last victory for the glorious Lotus 49, soon to be replaced by the 72.

Hulme qualified a fine third, behind the two March 701-Ford of Stewart and Amon, while McLaren was in tenth. In the race, McLaren suffered a suspension failure on lap 19, while Hulme drove a steady race to finish in fourth.
Sadly, this was to be Bruce McLaren’s final Formula One race (picture below) – as he was killed 5 days before the Belgian Grand Prix, while testing his Can-Am car at Goodwood. It was also the first Formula 1 race for the promising Ronnie Peterson, who was entered in a March 701. He finished in seventh, two laps down on winner Rindt.
