Nuvolari and Auto Union

Tazio Nuvolari (1892-1953) was an Italian racing driver. Originally of Mantua, he was the greatest talent of his era and was nicknamed Il Mantovano Volante (“the Flying Mantuan”).

Following the Tripoli Grand Prix, Auto Union contacted Nuvolari who agreed to drive for the highly successful German team, who was running their radical mid-engined cars.

Nuvolari found further success with Auto Union; this fast and reliable car enabled him to compete for victories and the European Championship, Nuvolari won his home Grand Prix at Monza and the Donington Grand Prix in England.
