In 1969, Cosworth developed its own Formula 1 chassis with four-wheel drive, but this stylistic exercise, entrusted to the talented young designer Robin Herd (ex-McLaren and soon-to-be founder of March), crouching in the photo above, never went beyond the stage of private testing.
It was the project’s designer himself, Mike Costin (the “Cos” of Cosworth, created with his partner Keith Duckworth), who took the wheel of the vehicle (photo below), although Australian Frank Gardner also tested this strange racing car.
