100 bottles of champagne

The American had qualified in third position, then drove a strong race, before being hampered by mechanical woes and finished in thirteenth position, 5 laps behind the winner. The champagne bottles must have been a good consolation for the Californian.
The 1964 British Grand Prix, also designated as the European Grand Prix, was held at Brand Hatch on 11 July 1964. This race saw the championship debut for British drivers Richard Attwood, John Taylor and Australian Frank Gardner. Jim Clark (Lotus-Climax) dominated the race from pole position. Graham Hill was second for BRM and Surtees third for Ferrari.
This was Jim Clark’s third British Grand Prix win (picture-below), breaking the record of two British Grand Prix wins set by Italian Alberto Ascari. None of the rookie drivers mentioned above saw the finish line.
