The Matra MS670B of Bob Wollek (driving) and Patrick Depailler, ahead of the BMW 3.0 CSL of Chris Amon and Hans Joachim Stuck during the 1973 24 Hours of Le Mans. No luck for these two crews: Retirement, broken oil pump for Wollek-Depailler and accident in the 16th hour of the race and retirement for Amon-Stuck.
Victory went to the Matra MS670B of Henri Pescarolo and Gérard Larrousse, six laps ahead of the Ferrari 312PB-73 of Arturo Merzario and Carlos Pace. For Pescarolo, it was his second consecutive victory in the prestigious race, while for Larrousse (picture below), it was a first and sweet revenge for his narrow defeat (by just 100 meters) in a Porsche 908 against the Ford GT40 of Ickx and Oliver in 1969.
