Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F355 GTS is for sale!
Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F355 GTS is for sale online at RM Sotheby’s! Biddings will start on Wednesday Feb 5 and end on Friday, Feb 7 2025 at 7pm. A unique opportunity to own this legendary car.
The history of this Ferrari dates back to 1996. During the winter, Bernie Ecclestone and Formula 1 succeeded in their bet to bring together the best driver on the grid, Schumacher , with the most prestigious team, Ferrari. At the time, the Scuderia was trying to restore its scarlet reputation after several lean seasons.
If the appointment of Jean Todt in 1993 already had a beneficial effect on the team’s performance, the arrival of “Schumi” three years later initiated the beginning of the real reconquest with the gradual creation of a dream team called to reign supreme over the discipline.
In the meantime, the young double world champion was welcomed as the new king at Maranello. And like any good Ferrari driver , he benefited from a company car bearing the little horse . The model specially adapted for him was the F355 GTS.
Built in early 1996, the berlinetta was finished in a Blu Le Mans colourway with a painted roof, complemented by a Pella Crema leather interior . Configured by Schumacher, the car’s most notable element was its six-speed manual gearbox , rather than the F1-style automated gearbox offered as an option.
Ferrari F355 GTS: from Schumacher’s hands to the present day
The service book indicates that the car was delivered to Weber Management GmbH , the company of his manager Willi Weber, on 30 April 1996, via Ferrari Deutschland GmbH in Wiesbaden. This delivery took place two days after the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring , where Schumacher had finished second.
It appears that the car was used by Schumacher at his residence in Monaco, as it received its first service at Monaco Motors , on 5 May 1996, having already covered 1,639 km . A letter from the Monaco dealer confirms that the GTS was owned by Schumacher and maintained by them until September 1997.
Although it is not known how long Weber Management owned the F355 GTS or how long Schumacher used it, the car was acquired by Pierre V. of Mougins, France, in May 2002, and then by Christopher A. of Vallauris, before being purchased in 2004 by Belgian Ziv K. with whom Sport Auto went to grind the tarmac of the Circuit de Mettet. The car was granted Ferrari Classiche certification in 2020, confirming that it retains its original chassis, gearbox and bodywork, as well as its original colour scheme. However, it is fitted with a different engine to the original one. It is rumoured that the car was delivered to Schumacher with an upgraded unit , although this remains unconfirmed.
