Lost opportunity

The 2007 Malaysian Grand Prix was held at the Sepang International Circuit and was the second race of the 2007 Formula One season. Reigning World Champion Fernando Alonso, who had left Renault for McLaren, won the race from second on the grid, with McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton finishing second.

Fernando Alonso, by winning the 2007 Malaysian Grand Prix, scored his first victory with his new team. This also marked McLaren’s first one-two finish since the 2005 Brazilian Grand Prix. Alonso and Hamilton seem (picture-above), at this early moment of the season, to get along well. Some say rightfully, this partnership at McLaren, was potentially the strongest, since Senna and Prost.

Unfortunately for McLaren, the season was marked by controversy, spying accusations and an unhealthy rivalry between its two drivers, who took points and victories away from each other, Alonso never expected his rookie team mate to challenge him as he did, and the Drivers’ title went to Kimi Raïkkonen (Ferrari), for one point only, over Hamilton and Alonso. Lost opportunity for McLaren and this great pairing of champions (picture-below).
