Full-face, or not…

After having tried his first full-face helmet aboard his Ferrari 312 during the last Grand Prix of the 1968 season at Mexico, Jacky Ickx was not satisfied, his visor generating a lot of condensation.

For the first race of the 1969 season in South Africa, the Belgian, who was now driving for Brabham, chose to use his traditional open-face helmet (picture above) while waiting for his helmet supplier Bell to deliver a new one with a mobile visor.

That was the case at the next Grand Prix at Montjuich in Spain (picture below), but there was no time to have it painted and Jacky waited to be sure of its efficiency, before giving it its striking electric blue colour.

Ickx thus participated in a few races with a white helmet in the spring of 1969, like at the 1000 km of Spa and at the Monaco Grand Prix.
