Alex Yoong, born 20 July 1976 in Kuala Lumpur, is a Malaysian racing driver from Chinese and English parentage. Yoong began his career in saloon cars before moving into the Proton one-make series. He later raced in single-seaters cars where he won the 1995 Malaysian Championship in 1995.

After trying his luck in F3, F3000 and Formula Nippon, Yoong became the first Malaysian to race in Formula One with Minardi at the 2001 Italian Grand Prix.

He took 14 starts with the modest Italian team between 2001 and 2002, but failed to score a championship point. Yoong also raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with a best finish of 8th overall in 2007.

Disappointed with the lack of impact his career had in his home country, he declared: “Ironically, my entry into F1 did very little to promote motorsports in Malaysia.”
