Fast and spectacular Brambilla
Vittorio Brambilla, a works March driver, gets ready for qualifying, ahead of the 1975 Swedish Formula One Grand Prix, while his team mate, Lella Lombardi, watches on (picture-above). The fast and spectacular Italian is about to take the only pole position of his F1 career, while Lombardi will qualify in 24th…, 4 seconds slower than him.
Brambilla had already amazed many at the 1975 Belgian Grand Prix, where he led in his orange March 751-Cosworth, until encountering brakes problems and here at the Swedish Grand Prix, where he secured pole position and ran at the front, until a transmission failure forced him to retire after 36 laps. Victory went to Niki Lauda in his Ferrari 312T.
His great day came at the Österreichring in that same year, when he won a wet 1975 Austrian Grand Prix. He spun off and wrecked the nose of his car as he took the checkered flag, and completed his slowing down lap with the front of his car bended, (picture below) while waving to the crowd.
