Estoril Classic: GT40 and co!
Last weekend, I attended the last meeting of the season of the Historic Racing by Peter Auto 2024 at Estoril, Portugal. It was a pleasure to discover the mythical track that saw Niki Lauda dramatic, for half-a-point, crowning in 1984 and the legendary first Grand Prix victory, in the pouring rain, of Ayrton Senna in his black and gold Lotus, the following year.
What a joy to witness races with such a variety of prestigious cars such as the Ford GT40’s (picture-above), a Martini Porsche 908/3, a few Cobra Daytonas, Porsche RSR’s and Iso Grifo’s… just to name a few, including a wonderful selection of fabulous F1 cars of the 70s. It was also very nice to meet in a laid back environment drivers and personalities like Zak Brown, Tom Kristensen or Pierluigi Martini.
Estoril, a great event – with friendly and passionate organisers – in the classic racing calendar that I warmly recommend, having been fortunate to attend for the first time. Picture below: Pierluigi Martini the former Minardi F1 driver, the 1976 Tyrrell P34 he was driving that day and myself.
