Jean-Pierre Jaussaud, at the wheel of the Matra 670B which he shares with Bob Wollek and José Dolhem (Didier Pironi’s half-brother) during the 1974 24 Hours of Le Mans. This crew will not see the finish: Matra V12 engine broken after 9 hours of racing.

Matra, registered under the name Équipe Gitanes, enters 4 cars: a new MS680 for Beltoise/Jarier, two Matra MS670Cs for Pescarolo/Larrousse and Jabouille/Migault, an MS670B for Wollek/Dolhem/Jaussaud and is, once again, the clear favorite.

The only ones who have the possibility of hindering the triumphant march of the French cars are the two Mirage GR7s entered by the Gulf Research Racing Company and driven by Bell/Hailwood and Schuppan/Wisell.

The race isn’t particularly close, as the Matra MS670C of Henri Pescarolo and Gérard Larrousse lead virtually from start to finish. It is the third consecutive victory for Pescarolo and for Matra, while for Larrousse, it is his second win in a row.
