The 26th Daily Express International Trophy was a non-championship Formula One race held at Silverstone on 7 April 1974. The 40-lap race was run in connection with a Formula 5000 event, and was won from pole position by rising star James Hunt, driving a Hesketh 308-Ford, with Jochen Mass second in a Surtees and Jean-Pierre Jarier, third in a Shadow.
Picture above: James Hunt (Hesketh) is on pole, ahead of Ronnie Peterson in the technically-advanced Lotus 76 (note the double rear wing), and Jochen Mass who proves the Surtees TS16 can be competitive. In fourth, just behind these three, one can recognise Mike Hailwood in his McLaren M23.
Peter Gethin finished seventh and first of the F5000 cars in his Chevron-Chevrolet, a lap down but in front two F1 cars (Redman and Edwards), while Teddy Pilette (picture-below) in another F5000 Chevron-Chevrolet, completed the top-ten.
