Sensation at the 1990 Hungarian Grand Prix. Belgian driver Thierry Boutsen, starting from pole position in his Williams FW13-Renault, took his third and final Grand Prix win at the Hungaroring, after leading the entire race.

Ayrton Senna tried to find a way past Boutsen in the closing stages of the race, but the Belgian held him off, crossing the line just 0.288 seconds ahead of the great Brazilian.

Nelson Piquet (Benetton) took 3rd, finishing four seconds ahead of Riccardo Patrese (Williams), with Derek Warwick in a Lotus and Eric Bernard in the Larrousse-Lola completing the top six.

Thierry Boutsen declared: “It was a very though race, I couldn’t afford any mistake with someone like Ayrton (Senna) pushing behind me. But what a satisfaction!”
