An era of great domination
Michael Schumacher, fresh from his two Formula 1 world championship titles with Benetton in 1994 and 1995, moved to Ferrari in 1996, and immediately, with an uncompetitive car, won races and finished third in the championship.
He fought for the title in 1997, but was disqualified from the championship for attempting to take out Jacques Villeneuve and his Williams during the deciding race at Jerez. Michael fought for the title again in 1998 and 1999, but lost to Mika Hakkinen (McLaren-Mercedes).
Michael Schumacher did not give up, beat his great rival Hakkinen and finally won a third crown in 2000, the first for Ferrari since the title won by Jody Scheckter in… 1979!
An era of great domination began for Schumacher and the Scuderia Ferrari, a formidable steamroller, aided by preferential treatment from Bridgestone, a dream team composed of Jean Todt, Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn, the exceptional talent of Schumacher and therefore a succession of victories and titles, five in a row from 2000 to 2004.
