Dan Gurney and Bob Bondurant are ready to race in their Eagle MK1s before the 1966 Mexican Grand Prix, as young mechanic Jo Ramirez looks on and Carroll Shelby (right) sits on Bondurant’s single-seater.

The Eagle MK1, often referred to as the Eagle T1G, was a very stylish single-seater Formula One car designed by Len Terry for Dan Gurney’s Anglo American Racers team. In 1966, it was initially powered by the Coventry Climax engine, a 2.7L inline-four that was later replaced by the Gurney-Weslake V12.

Here in Mexico, Dan Gurney qualified in 9th position and finished a good 5th, while his teammate Bob Bondurant was last on the grid (19th) and quickly had to retire due to fuel problems. The race was won from pole position by John Surtees in a Cooper-Climax.
