The 2017 Indianapolis 500 – the 101st running of the great race – was held on 28 May 2017. Alexander Rossi entered the event as the defending champion, while Fernando Alonso was the first active Formula One driver to contest the race since Teo Fabi in 1984.
Great showing for Fernando Alonso (picture above) during his first participation at the 2017 Indianapolis 500. The Spanish driver was fighting with the leaders when his Honda engine let go. The race was won by Japanese ace Takuma Sato, who became the first Asian driver to win at Indianapolis.
Alonso was voted Rookie of the Year, having led 27 laps before retiring in the closing stages of the race. Seduced by this unique race, “The Matador” promises to soon come back on the Brickyard.
