All smiles!
Brian Redman and Jo Siffert have good reason to be confident a few minutes before the start of the 1969 Nürburgring 1000 km. They know that their Porsche 908/02 entered by Porsche System Engineering will allow them to lead the race, but they will still have to hold on for 1000 kilometers and more than 6 hours of racing.
Brian Redman, born March 9, 1937, is a former English racing driver who covered himself in glory in endurance racing by winning the 1000 km of Spa and the Nürburgring several times (among many others), who was the benchmark for years in the highly contested F5000 championship, who won races in the Can-Am, and who also raced in Formula 1 from 1968 to 1974.
Warwick Brown said of him: “He is the best driver I have ever had the chance to race against. As skilled as Mario Andretti and a better thinker. An British gent and a racing beast.”
It was indeed the Porsche 908/02s that dominated the 1969 Nürburgring 1000 km, taking the top five places. Siffert/Redman (photo below) finished ahead of Stommelen/Herrmann, Elford/Ahrens, Lins/Attwood, and Kaushen/von Wendt. Another victory and a flawless performance for the leading Porsche crew and for the versatile Redman.
