A yellow Novi
Bobby Unser (1934-2021), seems to pause for the picture in the yellow number 6 Novi, at the 1963 Indianapolis 500 (picture above). An impressive and fast car, and what a fantastic noise it made! His race ended on lap 2 when he crashes on turn 1 and is classified 33rd and last.
Bobby Unser will easily overcome this disappointment and will later become one of the all time American greats, with three wins at the Indianapolis 500 (in 1968, 1975 and 1981), 35 IndyCar Series victories (USAC) and 10 overall wins at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Parnelli Jones took his only Indy 500 win in a Watson roadster in 1963. This win was controversial because his car spewing oil from a cracked overflow tank for many laps, which allegedly caused at least one driver to spin and crash.
