A ride back at Charade
Richie Ginther gives Jo Bonnier and Innes Ireland a ride back to the pits on his Honda RA-272 – so they can all DNF in confort (picture above), at the 1965 French Grand Prix held at the Circuit de Charade, Clermont Ferrand. Unusual: Ireland still in a polo shirt instead of a two-piece cotton fire-resistant suit.
Also interesting: Each of them won just one Grand Prix: the 1959 Dutch Grand Prix for Bonnier, the 1961 US GP for Innes Ireland and the 1965 Mexican GP for Richie Ginther.
The 40-lap race was won by Scot Jim Clark in a Lotus 25-Climax (picture below). Clark took pole position, led every lap and set the fastest lap. It was his third win in four races, and his second Grand Slam of the season, after the one achieved in South Africa. Total domination.
