A dark-blue helmet
A dark-blue and white helmet in a Ferrari in 1972, it should be Jacky Ickx, or maybe not. In fact, it’s Jean-Pierre Jarier in the Can-Am Ferrari 712P! The fast French driver, who at the time had a similar helmet design, is seen here-above in the powerful Ferrari on his way to fourth at Road America, Elkhart Lake.
In 1970, Ferrari entered a 512M at the Österreichring and at Kyalami for Jacky Ickx and Ignazio Giunti. The car retired in Austria with electrical problems but later won the 9 Hours of Kyalami.
For the 1971 season, it was converted to 712 specifications and competed in the Interserie with Merzario (one victory), and then was converted again to 712 Can-Am Spyder and Mario Andretti drove it to fourth at Watkins Glen in July.
The 712 Can-Am Spyder was then entered by the NART for Jean-Pierre Jarier in 1972, who finished 10th at Watkins Glen and 4th at Road America (picture-below), while Brian Redman drove it in… 1974 at Watkins Glen, but did not finish the race.
