250 at the top
The ADAC 1000 km of the Nürburgring took place on May 19, 1963 and was the seventh round of the Sports Car World Championship.
Picture above: The works Ferrari 250P of Willy Mairesse (at the wheel) and John Surtees, takes a convincing victory at the 1961 ADAC 1000 km of the Nürburgring.
The Ferrari works team, which came to Germany with three Ferrari 250P, was the main favorite for overall victory, however Nino Vaccarella destroyed one of the works cars during practice, so that only two cars could qualify for the race.
The mid-engined 12 cylinder racing cars were driven by Willy Mairesse and John Surtees, as well as Mike Parkes and Ludovico Scarfiotti. The other Ferraris at the start were private entries, that included the Ferrari 250 GTOs of Pierre Noblet and David Piper.
As mentioned above, Mairesse and Surtees took a prestigious victory for the Scuderia Ferrari, but the real surprise, however, was second place overall from Jean Guichet and Pierre Noblet in their Ferrari 250 GTO, who won superiorly in their class (picture below).
