The Porsche 907 LH entered by the Squadra Tartaruga for Swiss drivers Rico Steinemann and Dieter Spoerry, is ready to battle before the start of the 1968 24 Hours of Le Mans (photo above). Note the guy in red and yellow trying to figure out how the fuel nozzle works!

The 24 Hours of Le Mans took place on September 28 and 29, 1968, an unprecedented date due to the “events of May 68” which had considerably disrupted all of France and which had forced the organizers to move the 24 Hours by a few months.

Pedro Rodriguez and Lucien Bianchi won the race at the wheel of their Gulf-liveried Ford GT40, entered by JWAutomotive. Rico Steinemann and Dieter Spoerry finished second, five laps behind, in their privately entered Porsche 907 LH, even ahead of the factory Porsche 908 LH of Rolf Stommelen and Jochen Neerpach (photo below).
