In 1936, the Vanderbilt Cup, a prestigious race held in the beginning of the twentieth century in Long Island, in the State of New York, was organised for the first time since 1916. The Scuderia Ferrari shipped its Alfa Romeo 12C’s by boat, no other choice back then. (picture above).

The race of  75 laps of 6,39 km each, opposed the American drivers and the best European ones, amongst them French Jean-Pierre Wimille (Bugatti), Raymond Somer (Alfa Romeo) and Philippe Etancelin (Maserati), while victory went to legendary Tazio Nuvolari (picture here-under).
