Piquet ready for the fight

Nelson Piquet, above in a fighter pilot suit, is ready to slip into the cockpit of a Jaguar fighter jet and go for a fight, with the Camel-colored Lotus 99T-Honda in the foreground.

However, it is with the new Lotus 100T-Honda that Piquet will compete in the 1988 Formula 1 World Championship. The Brazilian, freshly crowned 1987 world champion with Williams, takes his number 1 to Team Lotus which will have the same Honda V6 Turbo as McLaren.

It would be a disappointing 1988 season for the three-time world champion, who finished sixth in the championship with only 22 points and three podium finishes (Brazil, San Marino, and Australia, photo below). The season was utterly dominated by the McLaren MP4/4-Hondas of Senna and Prost.
