A 917 made the villages tremble

A super-powerful Porsche 917K entered by the factory, driven by Hans Herrmann and Vic Elford, made the Sicilian villages tremble during the tests preceding the 1970 Targa Florio. This car would ultimately not take the start, Porsche rightly preferring to enter the light and agile 908/03.

Hans Herrmann and Vic Elford thus found themselves at the start at the wheel of a Porsche 908/03 and its 3-litre flat-8 engine, but were forced to retire after going off the road, with victory going to another 908/03, the one entered by John Wyer Automotive Engineering (for the factory) and driven by the excellent Jo Siffert and Brian Redman (see drawing below, Siffert at the wheel).
