No luck, this time

Vic Elford waits for his Martini-liveried Porsche 908/03 to be towed during the 1971 Targa Florio (pictured above). The Englishman, who was probably the fastest driver on Sicily’s narrow roads, shared the wheel with Gérard Larrousse, with whom he will win the Nürburgring 1000 km in two weeks’ time, in this same car.
Here, in this Sicily that he loves so much, Vic Elford, the winner in 1968 in a Porsche 907 with Italian Maglioli, was forced to retire and had to leave the victory to the Alfa Romeo T33/3 (photo below) driven by the Dutchman Toine Hezemans and Nino Vaccarella, the local driver of the stage.
