Light and nimble 718
The 1960 Targa Florio: The Porsche 718 RS 60 of future winners Hans Herrmann and Jo Bonnier, is being attended during a pitstop and a change of driver (picture-above). The pairing is solid and fast on the twisty Sicilian roads.
Ferrari had entered three of their latest 250 TR 60 and Dino 246S for their squad of drivers; Phil Hill, Wolfgang von Trips, Richie Ginther, Willy Mairesse, Ludovico Scarfiotti and Cliff Allison.
Their main opposition came from the works Porsches 718 RS of Jo Bonnier, Hans Herrmann, Edgar Barth, Graham Hill and Olivier Gendebien, despite these were smaller engined cars and less powerful, the German marque was victorious twelve month earlier and in the last round, the 12 Hours of Sebring.
When all the Ferraris were eliminated or slowed by technical problems, the Porsche of Bonnier and Herrmann (picture-below) inherited the lead, to record their second straight win in Sicily.
