Every year on the 6th of October, we remember French driver François Cevert, who fatally crashed on this day in 1973, during practice for the US Formula 1 Grand Prix at Watkins Glen.

On this very poignant picture here-above, you can see him strolling by and looking at the McLaren M23 of Peter Revson, with Teddy Mayer, team principal of McLaren in the background, on the 5th of October 1973, just a day before the tragic day.

“Very few racing drivers could ever claim to be a match of François Cevert,” says Jackie Stewart, who still keeps several pictures of his friend around the house. He adds: “I don’t think there’s anybody who’s ever been a match to François Cevert.”
